Buried Story
01.20.05 (1:48 pm)   [edit]

While reading the local liberal rag I came acrossed an interesting story, buried in the back pages below the fold. The Louisiana State Supreme Court unanimously reinstated the anti-gay marriage amendment that was approved by almost 70% of the voters last september.

The state district court had struck down the amendment stating it violated a provision in the state constitution. The lawsuit contended that the amendment covered more than one subject, which is illegal by the state constitution. The State Supreme Court said "no, it does not cover more than one subject. Therefore, we overrule the lower court and rule the amendment valid". Basically, they upheld what 70% of the voters want implemented. And it was unanimous!

Isn't it great when the judicial arm actually supports the voters wishes? I mean it happens so rarely. My hat's off to the voters of Louisiana and their Supreme Court Justices. They said loud and clear if you want to marry someone of the same sex, hey, move to John Kerry's state!

Or if you give it enough time, maybe Barbara Boxer's state will eventually allow it. But not as long as Arnold's in charge!

Until next time, see ya.
